M11.5 Blog about a Zero Waste Life
Watching Lauren's TED Talk I began thinking about the waste that I produce in my household. Even though it is only my husband and myself, I realized that we do produce a large amount of waste relative to our household size. Since we moved out of a 6 person household with his parents and grandparents, we have become more conscientious about what and how we are disposing of our products. We have begun to recycle and compost more than we ever did before and using the trash bin less and less. However, compared to Lauren's life style, I think we can do more. Going Zero Waste seems like a huge tasks and commitment, but I think that her suggestions were easy to follow. We should do little changes through out our lives that can have a big impact and become more conscious about the waste we produce and how we can minimize it. I think beginning to wane down the use of plastics will be a great first step in my household since we already use reusable bags. I also think it would be fun to make my own products so that I am not at the mercy of industry. Overall I found this talk to be very educational and motivational in my efforts to move to zero waste.
Hi Kera,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your thoughts! It's awesome to read that you are also moving towards creating less waste. I think creating our own goods gives us a lot of power to make safer products and always us to be creative. I'm sure with other individuals making an effort to create less waste, it would help the environment tremendously.
Hi Kera,
ReplyDeleteThat is so great that you and your husband are recycling and composting more! It is definitely a challenge to do that in a large household, but it is great that you are starting new habits. I agree that Lauren inspired me and made me reflect on how much more I can be doing to reduce the waste I produce. I also agree that little changes can add up and make a huge impact, especially if we encourage our friends and family to do the same. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
