M5.7 Blog: Your Sewage Facilities

Because I live in Half Moon Bay, we have only 1 small sewage treatment facility. It is called Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside. It maintains the sewers for the city of Half Moon Bay, Miramar, Moss Beach, Montara, and Princeton by the Sea. They provide wastewater treatment services and contract collection maintenance services to about 27,000  people. Even though there is one sewage treatment facility, we have never had any problems with our sewage or wastewater treatment services in the 5 years I have lived here. They care about the community and help us maintain a happy and health coastside.

    Hi Kera,
    I'm surprised by the capacity the 1 small sewage facility can handle since it maintains sewage for 5 cities. It is great that the facility prioritizes healthy environments. I hope that other cities will take that same approach and find the importance of treating sewage correctly.

    Hi Kera,

    Wow! I'm also surprised that one small sewage facility is able to manage all five cities! I believe the Silicon Valley Clean Water treatment facility also manages several cities around the area.

    Hi Kera,
    That is surprising that there is only 1 small sewage treatment facility that services for 27,000 people in multiple cities. That is great that you have never experienced any issues with your sewage or wastewater treatment services and that they care about protecting your community.

M2.3 Household Products

In addition to all of the health risks that you can be exposed to through your personal care products, products that you use almost everyday can also pose a risk. The two products that I use a lot and wanted to look up on the Household Product Database were "Nature's Miracle 3 in 1 Stain Remover" and the "Mr. Clean Magic Eraser". I was surprised that the pet stain remover showed minimal risks. I figured that, based on the previous products I have looked up, it would be in the moderate-hazard range since it is a product for pets. The Mr. Clean Magic eraser also surprised me. I assumed that something that markets as "magic" cant be all that good for you. The HPD website showed that it was an irritant, but it also did not have any known hazards. I am aware of the issue of vanishing bees. I found the teatronaturale article very interesting and informative. My dad used to bee keep (part of his many hobbies) in our home in Bakersfield. He taught me how valuable bees are and to not be afraid of them. He explained to me the importance that bees have on the environment and the world we know. This article addressed a lot of the concerns that he had told me about when I was growing up.
