M2.2 Personal Care Products
Product 1: Herbal Essence- Hello Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner Moderate Hazard.
The second product that I looked up was my moisturizer. All of the skin care blogs and websites suggest using this moisturizer, because it is the "best one for your skin". However, when I looked it up, it produced not so similar results. This product is a moderate hazard. Again, the thing that was driving the overall hazard was "PROPYLPARABEN", which is used a preservative. The rest of the ingredients were in the low-to moderate range.
Product 2: CeraVe Moisturizer Moderate Hazard
In reviewing these personal care products, I was shocked. I try to be thoughtful about the products I buy and research them as much as possible, but I realized that further investigation is needed before I decide to spend my money on these products. I knew that the shampoo and conditioner were not going to be the best, but I was surprised at the result of my moisturizer. I will be doing more research (via ewg.org) on the other products that I use, and if they prove to be hazardous I will be getting rid of them. I think everyone should be more mindful of the things they are putting in and on their bodies, and knowing the risks of these products is just as important. However, most people dont want to know what things are in their products, because they might feel like they cant afford the "good" products. Ignorance is bliss, until you find yourself in the hospital due to constant exposure to hazards.
Hi Kera,
ReplyDeleteI think we are easily influenced by what "is best for our skin" because there are other outside influences affecting our personal choices. You provide a valid point in that knowing the risks of the products is important. Interesting take on "good" products - I would not have associated costs as a reason for people not wanting to know what is in their products. I think it can definitely be a reason why people don't bother researching their items. In addition, I'm sure healthier, eco-friendly alternatives might actually be cheaper, but because there is little dissemination of this information, less people know about their options. Thanks for your insight!
Hi Kera,
ReplyDeleteI was also amazed by the information I found on my personal care products. I researched my foundation CC cream and found that although it is protecting me from the sun (with an SPF of 30), it still contains other chemicals that can be hazardous for my health. For skincare, I typically go for products that provide good complexion coverage and claim to have some health benefits, but judging from the information that I found, I think I'll try to look for a better option for my skin!

Hi Kera,
ReplyDeleteI was also shocked after looking up some of the products I use. I have used that moisturizer as well because it has such great reviews. It is scary to think that almost all of the products we use on a daily basis have some type of health risk associated with using them. I had the same outcome with looking up my conditioner and found that even though I love how it smells, it is that fragrance that actually causes the most harm. I am glad you will be doing more research on the products you use; I plan to do the same. Thanks for sharing! Great post.
